Plan B
I've been scoping out more races for the rest of the summer. Mostly 5K and 10K's but I'm warming up to the idea of running another half-marathon in the fall. Yes. I know. In the days before the race I said I wouldn't because it was too hard to find the time to train, but now I have this nagging desire to beat my 1:55:43 time.
But for now I've got two races in June: a 5K on the 6th and a 10K on the 12th. There are plenty of local races after that, in July and a few in August. Unfortunately the further we get into summer the earlier the start times (understandably, who wants to run in the heat of midday?), which makes getting out of the house in the morning with Sophia a bit more of a challenge. The logistics of dressing, feeding and packing up both Sophia, my bleary-eyed husband and I can be a real challenge. Especially if a race is a 45 minute drive from our house and starts at 8am. I really like the races that start at 11am--there's plenty of time to dress, feed, pack and double check before walking out the door.
There are a few half-marathons in the fall that I have my eye on, but that is still a ways off, and quite honestly I'm still on the fence about doing another one this season. If I decide not to do another half-marathon in the fall I have a plan B: The Warrior Dash. A run which boasts to be the "Craziest Fricken' Day of Your LIfe." The course is 3.23 miles and includes thirteen obstacles: leaping through fire, scaling stone walls, sliding down mud hills, crawling under barbed wire…you get the idea. Call me a masochist, but this sound like fun! And at the end, you get a Viking warrior helmet, free beer and a pretty cool finishers medal. The only problem is that it is a four hour drive away (in Windham, NY), which would be the only obstacle (haha) that could actually prevent me from participating. There would have to be a lot of dressing, feeding and packing for that--especially if it includes an overnight stay. But it might just be worth it. I really want that warrior helmet.
