Tips for Getting Outside and Active with Your Kids This Summer and GIVEAWAY

Disclosure: I’ve partnered with Road Runner Sports to help you get outside and active with your kids this summer! The views expressed here are my own.

Synonymous with summer: adventure. At the beginning of the summer I usually have a huge list of things I want to get out and do with the kids, the weather is warm and there’s so many places to explore!

But when it comes down to it, getting your kids out the door and active during the summer can actually be a big challenge. Often times it is so much easier for them to slump down on the couch and binge watch TV or zone out in front of a device. While there are definitely days for this, we try to unplug and get out as much as possible.

With summer in it’s final days before kids go back to school, now is a great time to knock the last of those summer adventures off your list. With the help of Road Runner Sports, my kids were prepared for our summer adventures with new shoes. If your kids ever need an incentive to move, try a new pair of shoes. As soon as my little ones cracked open the shoebox and got the shoes on their feet they were off and running!

I mean, we all know that feeling, right? New running shoes arrive and suddenly we can’t wait to go on that run we were dreading. It’s no different with kids!

If you want to make the most of what’s left of summer, here are a few tips for getting active with your kids:

Throwback Games

This summer we’ve re-discovered some classic games that I used to play as a kid  like Red Light, Green Light, Simon Says, Mother May I and Ghost in the Graveyard. These games get you running, moving and hopping around and can be a lot of fun for you too!

Chalk City

With sidewalk chalk, create a maze of roads, “parks” and “stores” in your driveway. The kids can ride their bikes around the roads and stop in for a picnic in the “park.” Having to follow along the road makes bike riding a little more fun!

Hike and Seek

Plan a short hike or walk along a nature trail along. Do a little research before your hike and create a bingo sheet with plants, animals or landmarks you might see on your hike. Spend your hike looking for the items on your bingo sheet.

Make a bingo sheet of things you might see along your nature walk. We looked for sea glass and periwinkles during our walk by the ocean.
