Weekend Round Up and Enter to win $300 from prAna

This weekend has been packed with races and family fun. It's been a whirlwind month for us, but we're finding ways to carry on through the craziness. It means (for me) letting go of things being "just so" and going into races without goals or PR's in mind. [Tweet "Weekend Round Up from @runfargirl"]

On Thursday

I ran the Saunders Rye Harbor 10K, one of the oldest 10K's in my area. Going into the race I had no expectations. I'd been running in Colorado the previous weekend and while my legs felt recovered from all the downhill, I was exhausted from travel. Add to that the fact that I am just emotionally and physically drained from moving and transitioning this past month: we have moved three times in three weeks, staying with family and in familiar places but it has still taken a toll on the kids...and me. I haven't been training consistently for the past three weeks, no track workouts or hill runs and while I'm running almost daily it's not the training I was doing in July.

Sweaty mess after Saunders 10K, but someone wanted to hold my hand.

A lack of a race plan can be a good thing, but sometimes you at least need to have a plan for the first mile to keep you from going out too fast. I went out WAY to fast in the first mile and paid dearly for it in the final three miles. Since Saunders is a flat course and my 10K PR comes from a hilly course (600ft elevation gain) from 2 years ago I was 'hoping' that I could sneak in somewhere under 41:58 and snag a PR. But going out too fast, plus the heat (it was 80 at the start) and I just didn't race very smart made for a slower time. My splits were like a long, slow death: 6:26, 6:47, 6:57, 6:56, 6:55, 7:04 and then 1:18 or the last .2 of the race. I crossed the line in 42:22  and finished 5th overall female, which isn't a bad time (or a bad place) all things considered.

On Saturday

We headed up to Gilford, NH to cheer on my Dad at the Timberman Sprint Triathlon. Honestly, I love cheering at races more than running, not gonna lie sometimes I get that itch and wish I was racing, but it is so fun to cowbell and cheer your heart out for someone you love! We got the kids up early for the 7am start and made it to the race in time to see him come in on the bike and head out on the run. Cowbelling is a workout, really it is.

I'm a huge fan of prAna clothing, especially their organic and BlueSign lines which features sustainable and fashionable clothing. I just purchased a bathing suit while they were having their summer sale and it is thee most comfortable suit I've ever worn: it stays put and generously covers all the right places.

This portion of the post is in partnership with FitApproach, prAna and Organic Valley but the fact that I love prAna has nothing to do with the sponsorship and everything to do with the fact that their clothes are comfortable and sustainable.
