runfargirl training update

Last week marked my first week of 'real' training since running Boston. I feel fully recovered, my legs feel fresh and I'm excited for some of the challenging races I have ahead of me this summer. Here's how last week broke down:

Monday: 30 minutes of easy running

Tuesday: 8 miles that felt amazing. My legs felt fresh and happy and the miles just ticked by effortlessly. It was a good run on a crisp and pretty spring morning.

Wednesday: 4 easy morning miles then 12x300 on the track. This is one of my fave workouts 300's are short enough to really push yourself. We did two sets of 6 on 2:30 min cycles with the instructions to go hard on the 5th repeat in each set. Here's how my sets broke down:

Set one (59,59,59,59,54,1:02) Set 2 (102, 102, 101, 101, 59, 102)

I went pretty hard in the first set. I gave everything I had on that 54 and just had to tough it out the last set.

Finished with 8.25 miles for the day.

Thursday: Run up Gunstock Mountain. This was the first run of the season and the climb always surprises me. There's a good 25% grade section at the top that is especially challenging. But I ran it in record time for me 23:05. And followed it up with 5K on the tails at the base. 1:12 min of running, probably 5 miles-ish.

Saturday: I met up with Angela from HappyFitMama for a fabulous sunrise run up Mt. Major in Gilford, the sunrise and the gorgeous views of the lake were well worth the early morning wake up. 1:06 minute of running, probably 5 miles in distance.

Sunday: I'm going back to timed long runs on Sundays. I like these because the miles and pace don't matter, just the time. So if my body is tired I run fewer miles and if I'm feeling good there will be more miles. I ran 2 hours of easy running, although it didn't feel that "easy" especially when I hit the hill that's 1/2 mile from my house. I walked a little bit, which is totally acceptable. I had a hard week. Walking is OK. I will run hard on the hard days and walk on the easy days if I feel like it.

44 miles for the week

From here on out my weeks will look pretty similar to last week although I'll be adding a hilly 7 miler on Monday.

If you haven't seen on Instagram I put my name in the running to run Ragnar Reach the Beach on "The Most Interesting Team in the World" with Nick Symmonds. It's kind of presumptuous to think I'm interesting enough to be on the "The Most Interesting Team in the World" (Ha!) but I'd love it if you took the time to vote so I have a chance at this really neat opportunity. Plus I get to choose a friend to come along and run with me!
