Friday Finds

We survived another week...and more snow. I think even the kids are getting a little tired of the snow and the cold-- mostly the cold; the snow isn't so fun to play in when the temperatures are in the teens. But we're making the best of it. I've been running exclusively on the treadmill this week. As much as I loath it, I am grateful we have one. The roads have become so narrow thanks to all the snow that I just don't feel entirely safe running on a shoulder-less road at 26 weeks pregnant. I'm just not agile enough to jump out of the way if need be. But there are some perks to the snow: great snowshoe running  and it has forced us to get creative with our indoor activities and thanks to snowday movies I've had a chance to catch up on some blog reading. Which leads to Friday's Finds!

Kingman Farm Moonlight Snowshoe 5K: This was my first snowshoe race last year and it is fast approaching (February 14th). It was an amazing experience to careen through the woods at night, the path lit only by my headlamp. It was a great introduction to snowshoe racing and I can't wait to get back to this race next year. The conditions are going to be AMAZING thanks to all the fresh snow. Registration opens on February 7th (this Saturday) and will probably sell out in a day. So if you're considering it, mark your calendar and register early. The race is held in Madbury, NH.

Swoob Fit:I stumbled across this small women's athletic apparel company quite by accident on Twitter and checked out their offerings. They make super cute sports bras with multiple pockets to stash GU's, tissue,s a phone or iPod. I've stashed GU's in my bra before and there's always a little chaffing involved (that foil packaging is not too kind to skin). I carried four GU's in my  most recent marathon and even though my Athleta shorts (which they don't make anymore...boo) had three pockets I felt like my bottom half was weighed down my GU. I would have liked to distribute the GU's more evenly. I like that these bras have multiple pockets (not to mention super cute straps too) and plan to purchase one soon.

How to Achieve Balance in Fitness, Healthy Eating and Life: Christine of LoveLifeSurf.com is one of my favorite bloggers. I love her writing style and voice and her content is always solid. She doesn't disappoint with this thoughtful article on finding balance. She explores the idea of tensegrity, talks a little physics and gives some great tips on managing the ebb and flow of life as we seek balance. It's a great read.

The Basement Obstacle Course: As I said before we're all fighting cabin fever thanks to reoccurring snowdays. My hubby suggested I take them into the basement and stick Sophia on the treadmill to workout some of the crazy (so they don't do laps around the house upstairs). So yesterday we went down and using some of the equipment we have set up a little circuit of box, jumps, cone touches, pushups and ball kicks. We pumped up the Katy Perry and spent an hour going through the course and dancing around to the music. It was exactly what we needed.

Tales from Another Mother Runner: Not sure about you but I'm a big fan of Dimity and Sarah, authors of Run Like Mother, Run Like a Mother and Tales from Another Mother Runner. And they are coming to New England (Andover, MA) for a book party! I'm super excited about his event on March 9th and can't wait to attend! Check out the details HERE.

What did you discover this week? How do you deal with the cabin fever crazies?
